Title: Teacher leadership in the aftermath of a pandemic: the now, the dance, the transformation. Author(s): Berry, Barnett | Doucet, Armand | Owens, Ben | Education International | University of South Carolina Published: Brussels Belgium : Education International : May 2020 Abstract: Across the globe the COVID-19 pandemic has turned everyone’s life upside-down. This includes anyone involved in public schooling students, parents, or educators. The pandemic has exposed gross inequities in public education system, and the power of teacher networks and leadership from, by, and for teachers. Teachers, as they physically distance from their students and each other, they have double-down on their social networks to spread innovations in teaching and learning as well as family engagement. It is time for school systems, worldwide, to capitalize on and serve the kind of teacher leadership needed to place students at the center of their learning. Our recommendations are grounded in science of learning, the research on how teachers spread their expertise and lead, and evidence of how classroom experts are collaborating as well as how the world’s medical expertise is foreshadowing the future. We call for three waves of action – The Now, The Dance (part past/part future) and The Transformation. The Now: We must begin by strengthening existing systems of teacher leadership identifying how teachers are leading and recognizing them in any number of ways. School system leaders will serve a very important role in helping teachers spread their expertise and have their evidence-based stories inform colleagues as well as parents and policy leaders. Title: Dancing between diversity and consistency : refining assessment in postgraduate degrees in dance. The aims of the project were to address issues of assessment legitimacy raised by the entry of practice-orientated dance studies into Australian higher degrees; examine literal embodiment and presence, as opposed to cultural studies about states of embodiment; foreground the validity of questions around subjectivity and corporeal intelligence/s and the reliability of artistic/aesthetic communications, and finally to celebrate 'performance mastery' (Melrose 2003) as a rigorous and legitimate mode of higher research. Title: Disturbances and dislocations : understanding teaching and learning experiences in indigenous Australian women's music and dance. Series: (European University Studies ; v. 932) Author(s): Mackinlay, E. | Published: Bern Germany ; New York NY : Peter Lang : 2007 ISBN: 9783039108251 ISSN: 0531-7398 Abstract: One of the biggest debates in Australian Indigenous education today revolves around the many contested and competing ways of knowledge about Indigenous cultures and the means by which Indigenous intellectual traditions and knowledges make the journey into mainstream educational settings. Grounded in Bakhtin's theories of dialogue and voice, this book explores the polyphonic nature of power relations, performance roles and pedagogical texts in the context of teaching and learning Indigenous Australian women's music and dance. The performance classroom is examined as a potential site for disturbing and dislocating dominant modes of representation of Indigenous women's performance through the construction, mediation and negotiation of Indigenous knowledge from and between both non-Indigenous and Indigenous voices. This book contains a CD with video clips illustrating the ways in which an embodied approach to teaching and learning happens in this classroom context.
