Author(s): Hardie, Mary | Lowe, Russell | Newton, Sidney | Pickersgill, Sean | Rameezdeen, Rameez | Srivastava, Amit | Zillante, George | Australia. Office for Learning and Teaching | University of New South Wales Published: Canberra : Office for Learning and Teaching : [2017] ISBN: 9781760510640 (PDF) |9781760510657 (DOCX) ISBN: 9781760510633 (print ed)
Abstract: Australia must do more to develop graduates with the practice-ready skills they need to play an effective role in the workplace. Situated learning lends itself to the development of key practice-ready skills, but it is contingent on the availability of authentic clinical experiences. The potential for replacing direct student engagement in practice with a computer-simulated clinical experience is apparent. This is the final report from a project that addressed the potential for emerging virtual reality and related digital technologies to provide and assess particular clinical experiences. The project delivered three learning and teaching resource outcomes: The Situation Engine which uses video game technologies to model and manage practical situations; an open access, online database of learning and teaching resources in construction technology; and a Moodle resource that binds learning resources to specific construction technology learning outcomes. Title: Australian Child Wellbeing project : technical report. Author(s): Dix, Katherine | Lietz, Petra | Macaskill, Greg | Murphy, Martin | O'Grady, Elizabeth | Redmond, Gerry | Thomson, Sue | Tobin, Mollie | Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) | Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) | Flinders University Published: Camberwell, Vic : Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) : December 2015 Abstract: The Australian Child Wellbeing Project (ACWP) was conducted from 2012 – 2015 using a mixed-methods, child-centred approach. Young people’s perspectives were used to inform a nationally representative survey of children’s wellbeing in the middle years. The aims of the ACWP survey were to benchmark child wellbeing in Australia and to provide useful information for services that promote young people’s healthy development. A final outcome of this project was to make the extensive ACWP database publically available in order to provide further opportunity to exploit the rich data and improve understanding. Accordingly, this technical report consolidates the research conducted by ACER during the three-year study. It provides supporting information about technical aspects of the main survey and its resulting reports, and for facilitating secondary data analyses of the ACWP database. Specifically, it details issues related to survey design, implementation and data analysis. Results from the ACWP main survey are not reported in the technical report, but are presented in the final report. This technical report and data user guide contains an overview of the design, sampling, and data collection activities of the ACWP main study conducted in 2014. In addition, it reports the technical aspects of the first and second stage statistical and thematic analyses presented in the ACWP Final Report, along with guidelines about using the ACWP database. Title: Assessing the effect of geographic information on data linkage quality using vocational education and training in schools data, 2014 : research paper. Author(s): Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Published: [Canberra] : Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) : 2014 Abstract: This research paper compares the quality of linking two Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools datasets containing different levels of geography with 2011 Census of Population and Housing data. The Australian Bureau of Statistics was provided with access to the 2011 VET in Schools datasets by the National Centre for Vocational Education and Research and the Queensland Curriculum Assessment Authority. The study concluded that more detailed geography on VET in Schools data leads to improved linkage rates and quality when linking to Census data. This paper provides background to the study, a description of the linkage strategy and process, and an assessment of the quality of the linkage. Recommendations for future data integration projects are also discussed. Victoria Institute for Education, Diversity and Lifelong Learning Published: Melbourne : Victoria University. Victoria Institute for Education, Diversity and Lifelong Learning : July 2014 Abstract: This is the final report from a 2013 research project that explored options for marginalised young people in Australia to complete secondary schooling (Year 9-12 or equivalent) through innovative, flexible and/or alternative learning programs. The research developed a publicly available database of more than 20 flexible learning programs across Australia, with detailed analysis of eight of these. This report summarises the overall findings regarding: the types of learning programs operating; the number of programs and students attending; qualifications obtained; program policies; and how the website is used. It also outlines a good practice framework for understanding flexible learning programs and supporting their provision. The report concludes with implications for stakeholders. The author argues that flexible learning programs generate substantial benefits for individual young people as well as for their communities and broader Australian social and economic imperatives. Dept of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) Published: [Strawberry Hills NSW] : Australian Learning and Teaching Council : 2009 ISBN: 9781741281743 (pdf) ISBN: 9781741281736 (pbk)
Abstract: Project EnROLE was a two year $200,000 ALTC project to encourage uptake of online role based learning environments, with particular focus on role play. The project goal was to encourage uptake of online role based learning environments using the strategy of building a community of practice at university, state and national levels which would better reward and recognise teachers already using role play and scaffold teachers wanting to get started with role play. The BLUE Report describes the outcomes and achievements in 4 sections representing 4 phases of the project: Building, Linking, Understanding and Extending. The key finding is that a good practice database (repository) cannot be built without simultaneously building a community of practice and that the role of connector/broker is essential for community development. The BLUE report serves as a guide for educators interested in the field of online role play to assist them in identifying and accessing available resources. It also provides guides and frameworks of a more generic nature about Peer Review, Partnerships, Fellowships, Leadership and Uptake. Series: (OAK Law Project report ; n. 1) Author(s): Fitzgerald, B. | Fitzgerald, A. | Perry, M. | Kiel-Chisholm, S. | Driscoll, E. | Thampapillai, D. | Coates, J. | Australia. Dept of Education, Science and Training (DEST) Published: Barton ACT : DEST : 2006 ISBN: 0980298814 |9780980298819 Abstract: This Report analyses the copyright law framework needed to ensure open access to outputs of the Australian academic and research sector such as datasets, articles and theses. It is written in the context of an increasing recognition, in Australia and internationally, that access to knowledge is a key driver of social, cultural and economic development and that publicly funded research should be openly accessible. With the objective of enabling access to knowledge, this Report proposes the development of clear protocols for copyright management (designed as practical and effective tools) for implementation in the Australian academic and research sector. The Report explains that with the rise of networked digital technologies our knowledge landscape and innovation system is more and more reliant on best practice copyright management strategies. Furthermore in the 21st century these strategies need to accommodate both the demands for open sharing of knowledge and traditional commercialisation models. To this end, this Report examines the way in which practices for managing copyright, interact with the new web based frameworks that have developed for knowledge creation and dissemination. It focuses on specific areas that are central to the promotion of innovation and creativity in Australia, with emphasis on various types of repositories. Title: Access to flexible learning resources : final report to Department of Employment, Training and Industrial Relations (Qld) and the Project Steering Group. Author(s): Published: Brisbane : Backroad Connections Pty Ltd : 2001 Abstract: This project is a research and development initiative within the Framework for National Collaboration in Flexible Learning in VET 2000-2004. The overall aim of this area of activity within the Framework is to facilitate effective access to and distribution of learning products and services within the Australian Vocational Education and Training system, with a particular emphasis on access to resources which support flexible and online delivery. The current project focused on the compatibility of the various online resource collections and services within Australia, and how accessible they are to end users. The project also investigated the need for, and feasibility of, a 'one-stop-shop' which would~complement existing registers and services such as EdNA Online. Information was gathered through a user survey of VET practitioners, a review and analysis of current registers and directories of flexible learning resources, a discussion paper which summarised initial project research findings, and one-day workshops held across Australia. The recommendations and mechanisms considered by the project were specifically about improving online access to resources through improvements to existing websites, catalogues and registers as well as the possible role of a new online service. This research and consultation suggests that the creation of a national consolidated database of VET learning resources as a new initiative would not be viable.
